About Monitor Sharing:
Identification: Monitor sharing is the act of using one monitor to display data from more than one computer system. In most instances data from one computer is displayed at any given time, and the user can switch the monitor to display information from the other computers using a switch.
Function: To share one monitor between two or more computers it's necessary to use a KVM switch. KVM stands for keyboard, video and mouse. Such switches allow you to use one keyboard, monitor and mouse to control and utilize multiple computer systems or networks. All peripherals are plugged into the KVM switch, which in turn connects to each computer to facilitate the process.
Benefits: There are many potential benefits associated with sharing one monitor between multiple computer systems. For one thing, computer monitors are costly. By only using one monitor you can avoid the expense of buying a separate monitor for each computer. Plus, monitor sharing is a space-saving technique because you don't need to find room for multiple monitors, only for the computers themselves. Likewise, monitor sharing saves energy because it uses only one monitor instead of multiple ones.
Size: Theoretically speaking it is possible to share one monitor between almost any number of computers. In practice, however, the process becomes difficult after more than five or so computers because it can necessitate multiple KVM switches. The majority of KVM switches facilitate two computers, but some can accommodate five or more.
